Well, the dust has barely settled on the Pre-Release weekend and here I am again. I have a number of things to tell you about, firstly the report form the Pre-Release events. Secondly, the forthcoming Release event at Stafford and finally an update on my PTQ Kyoto date. Phew.
The Shards of Alara Pre-Release weekend report.
The Pre-Releases themselves were well received by the players. On Saturday at Birmingham we had 41 players for a great first day. After six rounds of Swiss the event was finally won by Ben Beck. Well done Ben!
The next day at Stafford we had 35 players in the event which was great. At the end of six rounds of Swiss our Champion was Bill Johnson! This brings Bill’s trophy tally to a massive 4 trophies! Well done Bill, can Ian Davis or brother Tom Johnson win the event this weekend to bring their trophy count to four? Can anyone stop Bill “Magic” Johnson? [I slipped in a little NBA basketball reference there. He he.]
So overall the weekend was a success as usual and my thanks go out to all the players who attended, and the judges Pete and Glyn who worked so hard all weekend.

The Shards of AlaraTM pre-orders have been coming in and will be despatched as soon as the Shards of AlaraTM stock arrives. Shards of AlaraTM single cards will arrive on the site after the weekend.
Well, on to the Shards of AlaraTM Release event next weekend at Stafford. Here are the event details:
STAFFORD SHARDS OF ALARA RELEASE EVENT SUNDAY 5th OF OCTOBER 2008
To ensure your place in the events and to reserve your promotional foil card, please pre-register by following the process described below.
Event notes:
[1] This event is limited to 48 players so please make sure that you pre-register to guarantee your place and receive a promotional foil.
[2] We will be using deck pool registration at all Release events.
[3] Price for admission is £16.00 for two reasons. Firstly, it falls in line with Wizards of the Coast pricing guidelines and secondly because the product given to each player to use on the day is one Shards of AlaraTM tournament pack and three Shards of AlaraTM boosters.
[4] As an incentive to those of you who attended the Shards of AlaraTM Pre-Release events at Stafford and Birmingham I am running the following promotion. If you played in either of the Stafford or Birmingham Shards of AlaraTM Pre-Release events, I will offer a £1.00 deduction on the entry fee into the Release event. If you played in BOTH of the Stafford and Birmingham Shards of AlaraTM Pre-Release events, I will offer either a £2.00 deduction in the cost of entry OR a free pack of 50 plain Ultra Pro sleeves of the colour of your choice [while stocks last]. I realise that this isn’t an enormous saving, but I think that it rewards my most regular players for their loyalty.
[5] Those of you who pre-ordered a box of Shards of AlaraTM boosters from me can also claim your £2 discount per box from the entrance fee for the Release event on top of any other discounts explained in point [4] above.
[6] I’ll be filling the traditional Grab Bag with the contents of some Shards of AlaraTM boosters as additional prizes.
[7] As an additional prize, I have had a winner’s trophy engraved. The trophies are a popular part of the Pre-Release events and have been made part of the Release event tradition too.

VENUE: Oddfellows Hall, Greengate Street, Stafford, ST16 2HP.

START TIME: Enrolment from 9:30am till 10:30am. Deck construction will start at about 11:00am.
FORMAT: The format for the Release tournament is DCITM-sanctioned Shards of AlaraTM Sealed Deck.
Rules Enforcement Level: 1
ENTRY FEE: £16.00 for main event
Cost of entry includes one (1) Shards of AlaraTM tournament pack and three (3) Shards of AlaraTM boosters.
PRIZES: As per Wizards of the Coast premier event prize structure.
Special commemorative Shards of AlaraTM card for each tournament participant, while supplies last.
SIDE EVENTS: Booster Draft side events [triple Shards of AlaraTM] available all day long.
ENTRY FEE: £8.00 for Booster Drafts (12 Boosters as prizes split 5/3/2/2)

FUTURE EVENTS 2008
October – Saturday 11th – Birmingham – Standard Day or Shards Draft – you decide.
I’m kind of at a loss for an event here so I think I’m going to offer all day Standard [with Shards] as most other events are limited format at the moment. Since we were so cruelly denied any chance to draft Shards at the Pre-Releases, this event will also allow Birmingham regulars to draft triple Shards all day long.
November – Saturday 8th – Birmingham – PTQ Kyoto
The November Birmingham event has been confirmed as my PTQ slot for Kyoto. Pre-registration is open now for those of you that want to get in early and book your place.
November – Sunday 16th – Stafford – Big Bag Draft
The Big Bag Draft is the usual way to end the year. This year in response to player demand I have moved this iconic event into November so that players can manage to fit it in around the demands of the festive season. This year the places will be limited to probably about 40 players so when registration opens for the event make sure you get your name down as soon as possible.
NOTE: I have a set of From the Vault: Dragons to give away as part of the prize fund for this event!
December – No events are currently booked for December.
FUTURE EVENTS 2009
January – Saturday 31st – Birmingham – Conflux Pre Release
February – Sunday 1st – Stafford – Conflux Pre Release
The first events of 2009 are the Pre-Releases for the second set in the Shards block, Conflux. It may seem a long way away but try to get these events in your diaries now! More details as they appear.
February – Sunday 8th – Stafford – Conflux Release
As usual the Release event will take place on Sunday at Stafford. This is the first chance to buy Conflux singles, boosters, boxes, intro packs and fat packs.
